GOOD MORNING, GANGES
The Ganges, also known as Ganga is the most sacred river to Hindus. It rises in the Himalayas & is worshipped as the goddess Ganga.
It is also a lifeline to millions of Indians who depend on it for their daily needs. They drink the water & wash themselves & their clothes in the river. In Hindu mythology Ganga had descended from heaven to earth, so she is seen as the vehicle of ascent. Because of this Hindus cremate their dead in the Ganga.
The Ganges is highly polluted, especially near Varanasi.
