Janita
44 years, Essen

Of her 14 years of homelessness, Janita spent almost eight years living under the same bridge — something she considers a great luxury. Violence in her adoptive family and a lack of outside support eventually led her to run away, and she ended up living on the streets.
But she found her way back into what she calls the “world of housing.” But having a home, however, didn’t mean that everything was suddenly fine. Today, Janita gives educational talks on homelessness, runs an Instagram account about the topic, and has published a book: Janita-Marja Juvonen, “Die Anderen. Die harte Realität der Obdachlosigkeit” (The Others. The Harsh Reality of Homelessness).
