Sandra

56 years, Düsseldorf

After a traumatic gang rape, Sandra was unable to return to her structured daily life. For many years, she lived in city shelters or stayed with men who offered her a place to sleep in exchange for sex. Since 2016, she has had a home of her own again. As basic social security is not enough to live on, she sells the street magazine fiftyfifty, an important source of income for her and for many people experiencing homelessness: “Buy a street magazine — that’s what it’s there for. So we don’t lose our face, but simply keep our dignity.”
